Inside the SA5
Inspired by the LS3/5A, the SA5 utilises the same midbass driver as the original with a modern ribbon tweeter and updated cabinet construction.
A small box, built properly
Birch or ash ply, hand-joined, enclosing just 9 litres. In a box this size every panel matters, so the cabinet is lined with needled felt and built to keep the sound coming from the drivers, not the walls.
Professional-spec components
The SA5 uses a ribbon tweeter, the same one hung in the Sunflower Sound System's tweeter arrays. It takes everything from 1.8kHz up, with the speed and air that a small speaker for close listening needs.
The original driver for a classic sound
A 5in. B110 midbass driver covers everything from 55Hz to 1.8kHz, carrying vocals and instruments on its own. That's why the SA5 sounds coherent close up.
A simple, steep crossover
If selected, a passive 2-way crossover splits the signal at 1.8kHz with an 18dB/oct slope. That keeps each driver in the range where it works best, with a steep roll-off for minimal unwanted frequencies.
